Become a HAF Food Leader!

Learn how to teach cooking with Bristol's leading cookery teachers and chefs.

Join Bristol's leading cookery teachers and chefs for a new food and cookery training programme for HAF Activity Leaders. This free, five-week course will help you deliver practical food and cookery classes to children and families. The course includes everything you’ll need to know to enable you to run cookery classes or demonstrations, with practical ideas for cooking balanced meals for children following the School Food Plan and tips to encourage cooking from scratch, save money and reduce waste.

Who is the course for?

One member of staff per organisation, based on the expectation that the person taking part will act as a Food Leader and support the rest of their team with what they have learnt. This person must already be a confident cook, ideally with some experience cooking for or with children.

What you’ll get out of it!

You’ll leave with a clear plan for designing and leading sessions with the groups you work with; this might be a play setting, afterschool club, sports club, youth organisation or open-access HAF sessions. At the end of the course, you’ll be able to provide food education which is inclusive and accessible to all children and prepare lunches for children which are balanced, healthy and cater for special diets.
