Food Leaders

Food Leaders is a collaborative project between some of Bristol’s leading food educators and chefs and was born from knowledge that if Bristol is going to tackle food insecurity, there needs to be a sharp increase in the number of people who have the skills and confidence to deliver quality Food Education/cookery lessons in the community.

Furthermore, we know that positive change is more likely to take place when learning happens within trusted communities and groups. Therefore a ‘train the trainer’ model was developed, drawing on the expertise of organisations and people who have been delivering ground-breaking food education in Bristol for over 30 years.

Food Leaders is delivered by some of Bristol’s leading food educators including Barny Haughton (Square Food Foundation), Jo Ingleby (The Children’s Kitchen), Josh Eggleton (The Pony and Trap), Adrian Kirikmaa (St Monica’s Trust), Kalpna Woolf (91ways) and Sarah Francis and Claire Mcloughlin (Travelling Kitchen).

A typical Food Leaders Programme:

5-week programme, up skilling community leaders to be able to deliver practical cookery lessons, workshops or demonstrations encouraging cooking from scratch, saving money and reducing waste.

  • The course will include practical and written work, accredited qualifications, and ongoing mentoring.

  • Grant may be available towards cookery equipment for their group after attending the course.

Food Leaders is for people who:

  • Already working in the community (e.g. teachers, food project leads, youth workers, charity workers)

  • Are already keen cooks but would benefit from support in developing a quality food education with their groups.

  • Work with groups who are at risk or food insecurity or have restricted access to food education.
